Coventry Craftsmanship, 1919 — 1967

Founded in Coventry in 1919 by T.G. John, Alvis Car and Engineering Company quickly earned a reputation for uncompromising engineering and hand-built quality. For nearly fifty years, Alvis stood alongside Rolls-Royce and Bentley as one of Britain’s most respected luxury marques.

Did You Know?

Alvis made Britain’s first front-wheel-drive production car in 1928 and supplied armoured vehicles to the British Army for 40 years!

The Alvis Car Club of New Zealand Incorporated was founded on 17 October 1974 by a small group of dedicated owners determined to keep these remarkable cars on the road in the Antipodes.

Fifty years later, that spirit continues – with national rallies, technical knowledge-sharing, and a spares scheme that is the envy of overseas clubs.

Our members tour the length of New Zealand — often with 24+ Alvis cars in convoy. We are not a trailer-queen club. These cars are driven, enjoyed, and shared.

Preservation

Authentic restoration, original specifications, and the passing of irreplaceable knowledge from masters to the next generation of custodians.

Fellowship

A warm, unpretentious community of owners, partners, and enthusiasts who share picnics, stories, workshops and long lunches.

Adventure

Social and competitive events, touring rallies across both islands, hill climbs, and concours — these cars were built to be driven.
